Beloit Sky Carp News Release

CEDAR RAPIDS, IA - Tyler Duffey fired seven perfect innings, mowing down all twenty-one men he faced, as the Cedar Rapids Kernels threw a no-hitter against the Beloit Snappers in a 9-1 victory at Perfect Game Field on Sunday afternoon.

Beloit's record now stands at 1-3 so far this season. Cedar Rapids moves to 3-1 after taking three games out of four in the series.

Duffey (0-1) was completely untouchable all afternoon. He struck out at least one batter in every inning except the sixth, totaling seven on the day. Of the 21 consecutive outs he recorded, just three left the infield. Each Snapper had at least two at-bats against the right-hander, but the entire lineup was unable to solve him.

Despite his chance for perfection, Duffey was removed after seven in favor of reliever Josue Montanez. Beloit did manage to plate a run in that inning, capitalizing on three walks and a sacrifice fly by Ryan Mathews. Tim Atherton took the ball in the ninth and struck out the side to complete the no-no.

The Kernels' lineup provided plenty of firepower to support the pitching staff. They pushed across three runs in the first on an error, an RBI single by Dalton Hicks (3-4, 2 RBI, 2 runs) and a groundout off starter Vince Voiro (0-1). Hicks scored the fourth run in the third on a sacrifice fly and, after two more came in on an error, doubled in another run in the fourth. He then tallied the eighth run on an RBI double by Travis Harrison. Candido Pimentel finished off the scoring in the seventh with a sacrifice fly.

The Snappers will now make their way to Peoria to play the Chiefs in a three game set. They will face RHP Joe Cuda (0-0, 0.00 ERA) in game one and send out RHP Austin House (0-0, 0.00 ERA). First pitch time is 6:30 pm on Monday.
