Lake County Captains News Release


(Eastlake, OH) - The Lansing Lugnuts used a four run seventh inning to seize control of their third consecutive victory over the Lake County Captains by a final of 7-1. In the seventh, the Lugnuts had four hits, and took advantage of two Captains errors. Three of the runs were earned. The big blow in the inning was a single by Gustavo Pierre followed by a three base error that allowed Pierre to come around and score himself. In total, three runs scored on the play and the score was 6-1 Lansing headed to the bottom of the seventh.

Lansing scored first when Balbino Fuenmayor hit his second homerun of the season and of the series and Lansing led the game 1-0 in the second inning. The Captains answered in the bottom half with an inside-the-park homerun and the score was tied at one. Lansing retook the lead when Carlos Ramirez homered to left field in the top of the third and it was 2-1 Lugnuts.

In the ninth, Lansing added a run when Pierre reached again on an error and was chased home on a double by Balbino Fuenmayor. The lead went to 7-1 Lansing. The Captains scored two runs off of Lugnuts starters in the series and only one of those were earned.

Jake Sisco (0-1) started for the Captains and took the loss. Sisco pitched five and one third inning, allowing just three hits, two earned runs, three walks, and two strikeouts. Sisco also gave up two homeruns. Nick Pasquale pitched two innings, surrendering six hits, four runs, three were earned, and one walk. Felix Sterling pitched one and two thirds inning, and allowed one hit and one unearned run. Sterling punched out two.

Roberto Osuna (1-0) started for Lansing and got the win. Osuna pitched five innings and allowed just two hits, one earned run and had eight strikeouts. Osuna allowed the homer to Castillo. The Lansing bullpen pitched four innings of shutout baseball to preserve the win.

The Captains will hit the road for a seven game road trip. On Monday, Lake County will travel to Midland, Michigan to take on the Great Lakes Loons. Lake County will send RHP Dylan Baker (0-0,0.00) to the mound to face RHP Jonathan Martinez (0-0,0.00) for the Loons. First pitch will be at 6:05 PM from Dow Diamond.
