Long Island Ducks News Release


(Central Islip, N.Y.) - The Long Island Ducks were defeated by the Camden Riversharks, 12-7, on Saturday night in front of 6,619 fans at Citibank Park. The Ducks will play their final home game of the regular season on Sunday afternoon at 1:35 p.m. They will then open up the 2006 playoffs on the road before returning home to play Game Two of the Atlantic League North Division Championship Series on Wednesday, September 27.

With a 5-4 lead heading in the top of the sixth, the Riversharks put up six runs on six hits and an error before adding another run in the seventh to wrap up their tally at 12.

Despite the loss, Long Island's offense posted 14 hits on the evening including a two-run home run from each Jayson Bass and Greg Connors. Connors and Ray Navarrete each finished the evening with three hits apiece, while Carlos Hernandez and Henry Rodriguez both had a pair of hits.

Brendon Davis (3-7) earned the win after allowing six runs (five earned) on 10 hits over 5.1 innings of work. Byron Batson (0-1) took the loss after yielding five runs on nine hits in a five-inning start.

The Ducks and Riversharks will wrap up the regular season tomorrow at 1:35 p.m. Kevin Mannix (1-1) will take the hill for the Flock against the Sharks Ryan Costello (7-9). Chris King and David Weiss will call all of the action starting at 1:20 p.m. on WLIE (540 AM) and on www.liducks.com. That afternoon will be the Ducks annual Fan Appreciation Day presented by Long Island Pepsi. During the afternoon the World Famous Zooperstars! will perform their zany antics between innings. The afternoon will also feature great giveaways throughout the contest.
