(Waldorf, Md., June 23, 2012) - The Long Island Ducks defeated the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs 3-1 on Saturday night in the second game of a three-game series at Regency Furniture Stadium.

Southern Maryland struck first in the third inning with a RBI single by Jesse Gutierrez off Ducks starter Bob Zimmermann.

Both teams would then exchange zeroes until the eighth when Dan Lyons hit a first pitch solo homer to left off Blue Crabs starter David Hunter Jones.

Bryant Nelson made it 3-1 five batters later with a two-run single to center, putting the Flock on top for good.

Both starters pitched well, but neither factored into the decision. Zimmermann tossed six innings, allowing a run on six hits while striking out seven, and Jones fired seven innings, yielding one run on four hits with six strikeouts. Eric Niesen (1-1) got the win after pitching a scoreless seventh inning, and Charlie Manning (2-3) suffered the loss after giving up the eventual game-winning run in the eighth. Jon Hunton earned the save for the second consecutive night after pitching a perfect ninth, striking out two.

Lyons led the Ducks with two hits, while Nelson added two RBI.
