(Bridgeport, Conn. - June 23, 2012) - The Bridgeport Bluefish today announced the signing of pitcher Chris Hayes. Hayes joins the Bluefish for his third year in the Atlantic League and eighth of professional baseball. Last season, the righthander started five games for the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs and posted a 1-2 record with a 4.07 ERA and 15 strikeouts in 24.1 innings pitched.

"Chris has some experience in the Atlantic League and has pitched well during that time," says Bluefish manager Willie Upshaw. "He will be a nice addition to our pitching staff."

Hayes made his Atlantic League debut in 2010 with Southern Maryland when he appeared in 17 games and recorded a 2.17 ERA over the course of 49.1 innings of work. The 29-year-old was originally signed as an undrafted free agent by the Kansas City Royals in 2006. He has reached as high as the Triple-A level with Omaha of the International League on two separate occasions in 2009 and 2010. Over the course of 240 minor league games, the sidearmer owns a 24-21 record with a 2.76 ERA and 270 punchouts in 431 innings pitched.

In corresponding roster moves, the Bluefish have also activated catcher Luis Rodriguez from the Inactive List and released pitcher Tobi Stoner and infielder Joe Poletsky.
