Somerset Patriots News Release
Central Islip, NY - The Long Island Ducks (5-3, 51-27) defeated the Somerset Patriots (4-5, 54-25) 3-2 Friday evening at Bethpage Ballpark.
In the bottom of the first inning designated hitter Mat Gamel slugged a home run (5) to give Somerset a 1-0 advantage.
First baseman Jon Griffin clubbed a home run (11) in the ensuing half inning to even the score at 1-1.
The Patriots retook the lead in the top of the third inning as left fielder Aharon Eggleston recorded a RBI sacrifice fly to make the score 2-1.
The Ducks grabbed a 3-2 lead in the bottom of the fifth inning as left fielder Steve McQuail launched a two run home run (2).
Billy Buckner earned the win (7-1) allowing two runs in 5.2 innings of work. Randy Boone sustained the loss (4-3) hurling six frames while scattering three runs. Ryan Kussmaul notched the save (22) pitching the final inning.
