 Long Island Ducks News Release
(Central Islip, N.Y., June 13, 2007) - Long Island Ducks team officials today announced the signing of pitcher Lance Davis. Ducks officials also announced that the team has picked up a pair of outfielders, purchasing the contract of Norm Hutchins and recalling Estee Harris from the Road Warriors. Lefthander Davis is the team's all-time leader in wins (19) and was an integral part of the Ducks' push to the 2004 Atlantic League championship.
"All three players are expected to play an important role on our club," says Ducks general manager Michael Pfaff. "We're looking forward to welcoming Lance and Norm back and seeing Estee play in front of his hometown fans."
Harris, a Central Islip native, was signed by the Ducks in the offseason and assigned to the Road Warriors to begin the year. In 23 games he has hit .259 with four home runs and 16 RBI. The outfielder is a former second round draft pick of the New York Yankees.
Davis holds a record of 19-14 in two seasons with the Ducks. He claimed 11 of those victories during the 2005 season, when he posted a 3.76 ERA in 24 starts for Long Island. The southpaw was a draft choice of the Cincinnati Reds in 1995, and pitched in the organization until 2003. He made 20 starts at the big league level in 2001, going 8-4 for the Reds in 106.1 innings of work. He has a record of 78-71 over a 12-year minor league career spanning 293 games, 190 of them starts.
Hutchins is batting .278 with three homers and 16 RBI in 31 games for the Road Warriors this season. He is tied for first in the league with three triples. The 31-year-old switch hitter has played in the Atlantic League since 2003, and spent 15 games that season with the Ducks.
The Long Island Ducks play their home games at Citibank Park and are in their eighth season of play in the Atlantic League of Professional Baseball. For further information, visit www.liducks.com, or call (631) 940-3825.
