Camden Riversharks News Release
Camden, NJ- The Camden Riversharks announced that LHP Kevin Walker has been signed by the National League Colorado Rockies. Walker's contract was purchased from the Atlantic League and he will be reporting to the Colorado Springs Sky Sox (AAA) effective immediately.
The former Rivershark brought major league experience to the team, after having pitched for the San Diego Padres in 2001-2003, the San Francisco Giants in 2004 and the Chicago White Sox in 2005. The Padres sixth round pick in the 1995 draft, Walker hails from Irving, Texas. He was off to a great start this season in Camden, going 4-1 with a 1.74 ERA before his departure. Last season, Walker pitched with AAA Oklahoma in his hometown Texas Rangers' organization.
Camden also had some other moves yesterday, as they acquired former Philadelphia Phillies prospect Pete Shier. The infielder was originally drafted back in 1999 by the Baltimore Orioles. He made his way to Bowie (AA) in 2006 before being picked up by the Phillies this year. Shier was playing for the Clearwater Threshers, part of the Florida State League, before being signed by Camden. In 25 games with the club, Shier had 18 hits, two doubles, three home runs and nine RBI. In his first start for the team last night, Shier went 1-3, hitting his first home run, scoring two runs and an RBI.
The first-place Riversharks are off to a great June, going 7-2 while on the road during their longest trip of the season. After a big win in Lancaster last night against the Barnstormers, which saw them win 9-4, they continue their three game series tonight. The team returns home this Friday night to face the Long Island Ducks. Friday will be a busy night at Campbell's Field, with Cradle of Liberty Scout Night presented by the Silver Diner with a post-game Scout sleepover on the field, Nurses Night presented by Samaritan Hospice, some fun Father's Day Promotions presented by American Male, a Baseball Card Strip Giveaway to the first 1,500 fans presented by Chevrolet and a post-game fireworks extravaganza! Tickets are available for the upcoming nine-game homestand by calling 1-866-SHARKS-9, visiting the Sharks box office or by logging onto www.riversharks.com.
