Greenville Drive News Release
Greenville, SC - The Hudson Valley Renegades won the final game of a three-game series 9-4, which won them the opening series.
Hudson Valley led the whole game and put the nail in the coffin in the eighth inning. Aaron Palensky scored on a wild pitch, and Everson Pereira brought in Trey Sweeney.
The Renegades were first on the board. Designated hitter Austin Wells brought in Trey Sweeney and T.J. Rumfield followed suit, batting in Everson Pereira. This gave Hudson Valley a 2-0 lead after their first bat.
Renegades found success again at the plate in the second inning with Tyler Hardman who came home before Trey Sweeney was tagged out at first.
Alex Binelas scored the first run for the Drive on a homer hit into the Green Monster. Hudson Valley added more to their efforts with two runs coming from Cooper Bowman hitting the ball out in center field. The Renegades threatened in the third inning when starting pitcher Wyatt Olds gave way to Jorge Rodriguez with runners on second and third. Rodriguez worked-out of a jam, stranding both baserunners.
Austin Wells hit a fly ball to right which allowed Trey Sweeney to tag up and extend the Renegades lead in the fourth.
Matthew Lugo hit a triple which put himself in position to score when Binelas dropped one to center field. With the Drive's success at the plate, Hudson Valley relieved Will Warren with Michael Giacone in the bottom of the fourth inning. Giacone encountered Drive fan favorite Joe Davis, who hit a 430-yard bomb to the center of the field. To mention- tonight's game was the night Greenville gave fans the Joe Davis bobblehead.
In the fifth inning, Rodriguez allowed one run in a bases loaded situation. His wild pitch hit Aaron Palensky, which rotated T.J. Rumfield home.
The third pitcher from the Drive bullpen, Robert Kwiatkowski came in the seventh inning, and allowed no hits. After he allowed a run in the eighth inning, brought Ryan Fernandez out of the bullpen. Fernandez stranded runners on second and third.
The Drive will be on the road taking on Asheville this Tuesday April 12th.
