Hudson Valley Renegades News Release
GREENVILLE, S.C. - The Hudson Valley Renegades never trailed as they defeated the Greenville Drive 9-4 on Sunday at Fluor Field.
The Renegades grabbed an early lead three batters into the game, when Austin Wells drove in Trey Sweeney with an RBI single. Two batters later, T.J. Rumfield drove in Everson Pereira with a double off the wall to take a 2-0 advantage.
Hudson Valley tacked on a run in the second on a Pereira single, and two more in the third on a two-run home run by Cooper Bowman against Greenville starter Wyatt Olds. Wells brought in another run with a sac fly in the fourth.
In his professional debut, Will Warren turned in a solid outing, allowing three runs on three hits in 3.1 innings. He walked three and struck out five while throwing 66 pitches.
Michael Giacone relieved Warren in the fourth and allowed a two-run home run to Joe Davis as the Drive cut the deficit to 6-4. The left-hander settled in from there and struck out five batters in 2.1 innings of relief in his 2022 season debut.
The 'Gades got some insurance in the top of the fifth when Aaron Palensky was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to extend the lead to 7-4. Hudson Valley struck for two more runs in the top of the eighth on a run-scoring wild pitch and an RBI infield single from Pereira.
On his 21st birthday, Pereira finished 3-for-5 with a run scored and two RBIs. He was one of three Renegades with a multi-hit game, joined by Sweeney and Rumfield, who had two each.
Carson Coleman (2.1 IP) and Nelvin Correa (1.0 IP) combined to close out the victory. The four Renegades pitchers combined to strike out 13 batters, marking the second straight game with double-digit strikeouts.
The Renegades enjoy a day off on Monday before beginning a six-game series on Tuesday at the Rome Braves. First pitch in the opener is scheduled for 7 p.m., with coverage beginning on the Renegades Baseball Network at 6:45. Neither team has announced a starter.
