Round Rock Express News Release

ROUND ROCK, Texas – The Tulsa Drillers have made a nasty habit out of getting to Round Rock Express pitching in the eighth inning this series. Thursday night was no different, to an extreme.

Tulsa rocked the Round Rock bullpen for seven runs in the eighth to eradicate a four run deficit and defeat the Express, 8-6.

8,938 saw starter Greg Powell make his customary solid start. After departing with a 5-1 lead in the seventh, Round Rock looked like it was well on its way to a victory.

The fatal inning started with a single by Javier Colina and didn't end until 13 Drillers had come to the plate. Five hits and three errors pushed across the runs, a painful reminder of the last two nights for the Express. Tulsa scored the winning runs Tuesday and Wednesday in the eighth in 5-2 and 4-2 wins.

The loss overshadowed a typically strong start from Powell. After being rocked in his last start, Powell returned to form in allowing only one run on six hits in seven innings. The one big Driller inning also loomed large over two RBI nights from Mitch Meluskey – driving in his first runs with the Express – and Mike Coolbaugh.

Max Tremblay (2-3) was the loser and Melido Dotel (4-6) got the win in relief. Justin Huisman pitched the ninth for his 22nd save.

The first of a four game series against Wichita will start Friday at 7:05 p.m.
