Metairie, LA â Scott Barber pitched a five hit shutout to lead the Tucson Sidewinders (65-61) to a 4 to 0 victory over the New Orleans Zephyrs (63-62) on Thursday Night at Zephyr Field.
The Sidewinders would score all the runs they would need in the top of the first inning as Lyle Overbay would walk with two outs and advance to second on a single from Chad Tracy. Overbay would score on a single from Mike Bell and Tracy would score on a double from Doug DeVore.
Barber (1-0), making his first career AAA appearance, would take over from there as he held the Zephyrs to five hits, one walk and strike out one. The Sidewinders shutout the Zephyrs for the second consecutive night. The shutout marks the seventh time this season the Z's were shutout at home. Zephyrs starter Bob Scanlan (1-7) suffered the loss pitching five innings allowing two runs on five hits.
The Zephyrs open a five game series with the Iowa Cubs on Friday at 7:05 PM. Former LSU Tiger Randy Keisler is scheduled to start for the Zephyrs and Wilton Chavez for the Cubs. Friday Night at Zephyr Field is Coke and Bohn Brothers Toyota Free Car Friday.
