Tucson Sidewinders News Release

Scott Barber pitched a five-hit complete game shutout Thursday night in his first start above A-ball, lifting Tucson to a 4-0 win in New Orleans, completing a four-game series sweep.

Barber used just 86 pitches, recorded 17 ground ball outs and walked only one batter. Only one Zephyr got to third base as Tucson recorded its 11th shutout of the season and second in as many nights. John Patterson threw a nine-inning, five-hit shutout Wednesday night in a 1-0 Tucson win.

Tucson earned its first road sweep of the year in a four-game stretch where the Sidewinders never trailed.

The Sidewinders moved four games above .500 for just the second time this season. Tucson was 6-2 in the first home stand. The Sidewinders also moved above .500 on the road (31-30) for the first time this year after losing the first seven road games of the year.

Tucson scored two runs in the first to grab an early lead. Mike Bell singled in Lyle Overbay for the first run. Doug DeVore would follow with a double to chase home Chad Tracy.

The Sidewinders added two insurance runs in the ninth on a Tim Olson single and a Jeff Waldron sacrifice fly.

Tucson improved to 65-61. The Sidewinders return home to host Sacramento in a four-game series beginning Friday night at 7:00 p.m. at Tucson Electric Park. Edgar Gonzalez (7-5 3.78) will start for Tucson against Justin Duchscherer (12-2 3.12) for the River Cats.
