
Dream Forward Angel McCoughtry Named WNBA Eastern Conference Player of the Month

ATLANTA, August 2, 2011 - Atlanta Dream forward Angel McCoughtry was named the WNBA's Eastern Conference Player of the Month for regular season games played in July.
McCoughtry, Atlanta's leading scorer on the season, helped guide the Dream to a 5-3 (.625) record in July. She closed the month on a tear, earning consecutive Eastern Conference Player of the Week honors after scoring at least 30 points in three of her last five outings. In eight games overall, the University of Louisville product led the league in scoring (25.1 ppg) and ranked second in steals (2.7 spg), behind only the Chicago Sky's Epiphanny Prince (2.8 spg).
For the season, McCoughtry ranks second in the league in scoring (19.8 ppg), trailing only the Phoenix Mercury's Diana Taurasi (20.2 ppg). Her 2.4 steals per game rank second only to Prince (2.9). The recent All-Star selection is also contributing 5.1 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game.
Highlights of McCoughtry's month included:
July 26 at Tulsa: Scored a career-high 37 points (including an 11-for-22 effort from the field and a 15-for-19 effort on free throws), to go along with four rebounds and three steals in a 76-68 win.
July 31 at Connecticut: Recorded 36 points, four rebounds and three assists in a 99-92 loss to the division rival Sun.
July 20 at Washington: Contributed33 points and three steals in an 86-79 win over the Mystics.
July 28 vs. Los Angeles: Posteda double-double with 22 points and 11 rebounds to go along with seven assists in an 89-80 win over the Sparks.
July 16 vs. Chicago: Recorded 24 points, five rebounds and four steals in 76-68 win over the visiting Sky.
Seimone Augustus of the Minnesota Lynx was named the Western Conference Player of the Month.
The Atlanta Dream is the defending Women's National Basketball Association's (WNBA) Eastern Conference Champion. The Dream plays 17 home games this summer at Philips Arena.
