Minnesota's Maya Moore Named Rookie of the Month

NEW YORK, August 2, 2011 - The WNBA named Minnesota Lynx forward Maya Moore the Rookie of the Month for games played in July.

Moore led all rookies in scoring (13.0 ppg), steals (1.6 spg) and minutes (29.4 mpg). She also ranked second in rebounds (4.4 rpg) and assists (3.6 apg) among first-year players. Overall, Moore placed in the top 20 in the league for points and assists for the month. She scored a career-high 26 points on 6-for-9 shooting from three point range, to go with three assists in a win over Connecticut on July 9. In eight games, Moore scored in double digits five times, helping the Lynx to a league best 7-1 record.

The first overall pick in the 2011 WNBA Draft presented by adidas, Moore is continuing her strong rookie season, averaging more than 13 points and 4 rebounds for the league-leading Lynx (13-4).

Highlights of Moore's month included:

July 9 vs. Connecticut: Scored a career-high 26 points on 6-for-9 shooting from three point range in a 90-67 win.

July 15 vs. Indiana: Recorded 18 points and seven rebounds in an 80-70 win.

July 16 vs. Seattle: Grabbed a career-high nine rebounds and added three assists in a 69-62 win.

July 20 vs. Phoenix: Recorded a career-high four steals and scored 14 points in a 106-98 win.
