Drake Britton Named Eastern League Pitcher of the Week

Portland, Maine- The Eastern League of Professional Baseball Clubs has selected Portland Sea Dogs' pitcher Drake Britton as the Eastern League Pitcher of the Week for the week of June 4th through June 10th. Britton posted a 1-0 record in two starts with 0.00 ERA during the week, allowing three hits and notching seven strikeouts to earn the honor.

The 22 year-old, Britton, was promoted from Single-A Salem to Double-A Portland on June 1st. He made his Double-A debut with the Sea Dogs on Tuesday, June 5th at Hadlock Field tossing five no-hit innings against the Bowie Baysox in a 6-1 win. He held the Baysox scoreless and recorded two strikeouts in the contest. Britton followed that performance by firing 5.1 shutout innings against the Richmond Flying Squirrels on June 10th. Britton was in line for the win but took a no decision. He held Richmond to three hits and notched five strikeouts.

Britton earned the Carolina League Pitcher of the Week award last week after striking out seven batters and giving up five hits over six shutout innings in his final start with the Salem Red Sox on May 30th at Lynchburg. Between Salem and Portland, Britton has a streak of 20.1 scoreless innings dating back to May 25th. The Waco, Texas native was selected by the Boston Red Sox in the 23rd round of the 2007 draft out of Tomball High School in Texas.

The Sea Dogs start a six game road trip with a 7:05 PM game from Prince George's Stadium in Bowie, Maryland against the Baysox on Tuesday. The Sea Dogs will return to Hadlock Field for a three game homestand against the Harrisburg Senators June 19-21. Tickets are available for all Sea Dogs' home games.
