Binghamton Rumble Ponies News Release

BINGHAMTON, NY - The Binghamton Mets are proud to announce outfielder Matt den Dekker has been promoted to the Buffalo Bisons (AAA). The New York Mets made the official announcement Monday afternoon. The news caps a busy day for the Florida native; he was named the Eastern League Player of the Week early in the afternoon.

In his second year with the B-Mets, den Dekker departs the Southern Tier after two impressive months to start his 2012 campaign. Playing in all but two games, he leaves the club as the Eastern League leader in batting average (.340), hits (81), doubles (21), slugging percentage (.563), runs scored (47) and total bases (134). He tied for the league lead in extra-base hits (33).

Selected in the 5th round of the June 2010 draft by the Mets out of the University of Florida, den Dekker split his 2011 season between the St. Lucie Mets (High-A) and Binghamton Mets (AA). He hit .296 in 67 games with St. Lucie before being promoted to Binghamton in late June. Den Dekker hit .235 and slugged 11 home runs in 72 games as a B-Met last year.

Den Dekker ends his time with Binghamton on an eight-game hitting streak. He earned league honors for hitting .630 (17-for-27) over his last six games, a stretch that included four doubles, a triple, nine runs scored and four RBI. He also hit safely in eight consecutive at bats during the stretch and became the first B-Met since July 2011 to collect five hits in one game, going 5-for-5 against the Trenton Thunder on June 8.

After bidding their everyday center fielder farewell, the B-Mets (29-30) will be back in action Tuesday night to start a three-game series against the Reading Phillies at 6:35 PM. LHP Mark Cohoon takes the hill against RHP Jonathan Pettibone. The Horizons Federal Credit Union pre-game show begins at 6:20 PM.
