Dayton Dragons News Release
The Dayton Dragons (affiliate of the Cincinnati Reds) meet the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers (affiliate of the Milwaukee Brewers) in the third game of a three-game series and game three of a six-game road trip for Dayton.
Season Series: Dayton 4, Wisconsin 1 (first three games in Dayton). Dayton on the Current Road Trip: 2-0.
Last Game: The Dragons scored three runs in the top of the first inning and went on to a 4-1 victory over the Timber Rattlers on Thursday. The win was the Dragons fifth straight. Cody Puckett's two-run double in the first gave the Dragons all the runs they would need. Dragons pitchers J.C. Sulbaran, Andrew Bowman, and Aguido Gonzalez combined to scatter eight hits and limit Wisconsin to 1 for 11 with runners in scoring position.
Today's Starting Pitcher: Lance Janke makes his 15th start and 20th appearance of the season for the Dragons tonight. Janke's last start was last Saturday vs. Beloit when he earned the win (7.0 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 5 SO). Janke had an excellent month of June, going 3-0, 2.79 in five starts, but despite his strong outing six days ago, he is just 1-2, 5.96 in four starts in July. Janke has made one start vs. Wisconsin this season when he suffered a loss on May 26th (5.1 IP, 7 H, 6 R, 3 ER, 1 BB, 8 SO). Janke spent 13 days on the disabled list with a sprained ankle from May 3-15. Janke was a 14th round draft pick in 2008 by the Reds out of San Diego Christian College. He is a 22-year-old native of Santee, California. Janke was a starting pitcher last season at Billings, going 3-2, 5.60 in 11 games.
Skipper: Todd Benzinger makes his professional baseball managerial debut in 2009. Benzinger enjoyed a nine-year major league playing career from 1987-1995 with the Reds, Red Sox, Royals, Dodgers, and Giants. Todd is a former first baseman who recorded the final putout of the 1990 World Series with the Reds to complete their four-game sweep of the Oakland A's. Benzinger is a native of the Cincinnati area and currently resides in West Chester, Ohio. He has enjoyed a highly-successful career coaching girls' high school basketball since 1999.
