Lansing Lugnuts News Release
PEORIA, Ill. - Matt Daly walked Jose Made on four pitches with the bases loaded in the bottom of the ninth, sending the Peoria Chiefs (12-15; 50-46) to a 7-6 victory over the Lansing Lugnuts (9-17; 35-60) on Friday night at O'Brien Field.
The win gave Peoria the series victory over Lansing in the most dramatic contest of the three-game set.
Lansing trailed 2-0, 3-1, and 4-2 before taking the lead on Kenny Wilson's two-run triple in the sixth inning, part of a four-run rally that gave the visitors a 6-4 edge.
Peoria struck back in the seventh inning on two-out back-to-back RBI singles from Rebel Ridling and Kyler Burke, tying the score at 6-6 and setting up the ninth.
With one out, Ryan Flaherty grounded a single into right field against Daly (1-4) but the closer responded by striking out Ridling for the second out. A wild pitch advanced Flaherty to second base, causing the Lugnuts to intentionally walk Kyler Burke. Michael Brenly followed with a bouncer to shortstop Tyler Pastornicky, who chose to race to second base for the force on Burke. The Chiefs runner beat Pastornicky to the bag, loading the bases for Made, who had entered the game as a pinch-runner only an inning earlier.
Four pitches later, the game was over.
Ridling went 3-for-5 in the winning effort for Peoria, driving in four runs with a two-run homer and pair of RBI singles. Flaherty added two hits in three at-bats, including a solo homer, to go with four runs scored.
In defeat, Lugnuts center fielder Wilson went 3-for-4 with a pair of RBI, stolen bases, and runs scored.
Having wrapped up their series in Peoria, the Lugnuts begin a three-game series at Beloit on Saturday night. Right-hander Chad Beck (3-4, 4.65) starts for Lansing in the 8:00 p.m. opener, opposed by Snappers left-hander Daniel Osterbrock (7-6, 2.39).
