
Bees Allow Three Homeruns in Loss to Great Lakes

Burlington, IA (July 24, 2009) - The Burlington Bees fell 11-3 in the series finale to Great Lakes Friday night at Community Field. After taking the first game of the three-game series, the Bees lost the final two games as Great Lakes won the series.
Great Lakes scored two runs in the top of the first inning off a Kyle Russell two-run homerun. The Bees tied the game scoring one run in both the second and third innings. In the second, David Wood walked with one out and then scored on two-out double off the bat of Sean McCauley. In the third, Patrick Norris walked with one out, stole second and moved to third on an error. Adrian Ortiz then drove Norris home with a sacrifice fly to tie the game.
The Loons got the lead back when Anthony Hatch hit a solo homerun to lead off the top of the fourth inning. The Bees got that run back in the bottom of the fifth inning. With two outs, Juan River walked and stole second. Rivera then scored on a Norris singled to tie the game.
Great Lakes got the lead back for good in the top of the sixth when Tony Delmonico hit a two-run homerun. Those were the first two of eight unanswered runs put of the board by the Loons as they also scored three runs in both the seventh and eighth innings.
Mike Lehmann got the start for the Bees. In 5.2 innings, he allowed five runs on ten hits with three strikeouts and two walks. Lehmann allowed all three homeruns that Great Lakes hit as he took the loss to move to 3-4 on the season. Riquy Pena pitched one inning allowing three runs on one hit with two strikeouts and three walks. Dusty Odenbach made his Bees debut pitching 1.1 innings allowing three runs on two hits with three strikeouts and one walk. Barry Bowden pitched one no-hit inning with one strikeout and one walk as he was the only pitcher to not allow a run. As a staff, the Bees had five wild pitches in the game with Pena having three and Odenbach throwing two.
The Bees were outhit 13-8. No one had more than one hit, one run or one RBI for the Bees. Norris did have two stolen bases in the game.
The Bees open a three-game series against Ft. Wayne Saturday night at Community Field. Manauris Baez is the scheduled starter for the Bees. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30.
