Lansing Lugnuts News Release
DAYTON, OH - The Dayton Dragons (35-33) put up multiple runs in four straight innings and were able to hang on in the end, outslugging the Lansing Lugnuts (36-29) 15-11 on Friday night at Fifth Third Field in Dayton.
The loss drops the Lugnuts from the Midwest League playoff picture. They now trail the Great Lakes Loons for the final playoff spot by one game with two games remaining.
Dayton roughed up Lansing's Casey Lawrence (Loss, 4-7), tagging the starter for nine runs on eleven hits. The Dragons received home runs from Juan Duran, Donald Lutz, Yorman Rodriguez and David Vidal to lead the offensive outburst.
Lansing's offense tried to keep the game close, with Jake Marisnick and Matt Nuzzo leading the charge with three hits apiece. Marcus Knecht and Kevin Nolan each added home runs, but it was not enough.
Jamie Walczak (Win, 2-0) earned the victory for the Dragons with 2 1/3 innings of relief, with Drew Hayes recording the final two outs for his eighth save.
Lansing sends Jesse Litsch (Rehab start) to the mound to face Dayton lefty Tanner Robles (3-5, 6.18) in game two Saturday at Dayton's Fifth Third Field at 7:07 pm.
The Lugnuts' next series on Jackson Field will take place Friday, June 24th, through Sunday, June 26th against the Great Lakes Loons. Tickets are available for purchase online at www.lansinglugnuts.com, at the stadium box office, and by calling 517-485-4500.
