
Hot Rods Clinch in Win Over Silver Hawks

South Bend, IN - With a 7-2 victory over the South Bend Silver Hawks combined with a loss by the Lansing Lugnuts on Friday night, the Bowling Green Hot Rods have clinched their first playoff berth in the franchise's three year history.
The top three hitters in the Bowling Green lineup did the damage against South Bend on Friday, combining for six runs and all seven RBIs. Phil Wunderlich had five of the team's RBI, tying the Silver Hawks' Yazy Arbelo for the league lead with 52 on the season.
Leadoff hitter Cody Rogers had just one hit, but scored four times after reaching on two walks, a hit-by-pitch and a single. The second hitter in the lineup Robby Price added three hits with two RBIs for the Hot Rods. Wunderlich went 2-for-4 with a two run homer and the quintet of RBIs.
Most of the damage was done against South Bend starter Tyler Green (LP, 2-2), who lost for the second straight outing. Green allowed five runs on six hits over 4.1 innings on the night.
Bowling Green starter C.J. Riefenhauser (WP, 5-5) bent but did not break, allowing two runs on nine hits in seven innings. He struck out eight and walked only one to earn the win. Chris Rearick (SV, 10) pitched the final two innings to record the save.
The Silver Hawks lone runs were both scored by Zach Walters. He led off the fourth with a double and was followed by a Yazy Arbelo walk and Matt Helm single to load the bases. Walters later scored on a double play ball to put the Hawks on the board.
Then in the sixth, Walters singled with one out, moved to second on another Helm single and scored on a two out single by Raywilly Gomez to bring the Hawks within three runs.
Walters finished with three hits to raise his average to .314 on the year. Helm and Gomez also had two hits for the Silver Hawks.
The two teams continue the series on Saturday with a 5:30 PM Eastern Time first pitch at the Cove. LHP Patrick Schuster (5-3, 3.13 ERA) will take to the mound for South Bend against Bowling Green's LHP Enny Romero (2-3, 5.37 ERA).
