Dayton Dragons News Release

Dayton, Ohio-Another day, another big comeback victory for the Dayton Dragons. The Dragons trailed from the first inning onward on Friday before rallying for three runs in the bottom of the eighth to defeat the Peoria Chiefs 3-2 and complete a sweep of the three game series. The win was the 10th consecutive home victory for the Dragons and their fifth straight win overall. They are 14-2 over their last 16 games and 21-13 in the second half.

The Chiefs scored one run in the top of the first inning and added another in the fourth to take a 2-0 lead. Through seven innings, the Dragons had just two hits and only three base runners.

But in the bottom of the eighth, Dayton's Jason Bour led off with a home run to left-center field, his third of the season, to pull the Dragons to within one at 2-1.

Brandon Menchaca followed Bour's homer by drawing a walk. Michael McKennon's sacrifice bunt advanced Menchaca to second, and Kevyn Feiner lined a double to right to bring in Menchaca and tie the game. One batter later, pinch hitter Zack Cozart singled to right to bring in Feiner and give the Dragons a 3-2 lead.

Aguido Gonzalez pitched a scoreless ninth inning for the Dragons to earn his first save. Henry Arias (3-4), who had tossed a scoreless top of the eighth, was credited with the win.

Friday's win resembled the Wednesday game for the Dragons, when they trailed for most of the contest before scoring two runs in the eighth to tie and winning it in the bottom of the ninth on Angel Cabrera's home run.

It was a satisfying run-scoring hit for Cozart. The Dragons shortstop was hit in the head by a fastball in the first inning on Thursday and left the game in a scary moment, but was able to come off the bench on Friday for the game-winning hit.

The Dragons completed a sweep against a hot Peoria ballclub. The Chiefs were 21-5 over their last 26 games entering the series.

The Dragons finished with five hits. Denis Phipps went 2 for 3 with a pair of singles. Feiner's double extended his hitting streak to six straight games.

The Dragons host the Kane County Cougars on Saturday at 7:00 p.m. at Fifth Third Field. Josh Ravin (2-5, 5.61) will start for Dayton as the Dragons try for their sixth straight win and 11th straight home victory.

Notes: Midwest League President George Spelius continue to review tape and accounts of Thursday's fight between the Dragons and Chiefs and was not expected to announce suspensions for a few days...The Dragons own the league's best record for the month of July at 16-6...The Dragons are 26-11 vs. Western Division opponents.
