Quad Cities clobbers Lansing, 13-4

LANSING - The Quad Cities River Bandits rode a huge first inning outburst to an easy 13-4 win over the Lansing Lugnuts before 11,313 fans at Oldsmobile Park Friday night. The loss drops Lansing to 0-7 this season in rubber games against the Western Division.

The visiting Bandits raced to a 6-0 lead in the first frame by sending 10 batters to the plate against Lansing starter Chi-Hung Cheng.

The inning started when D'Marcus Ingram singled and Pete Kozma ripped a double, putting two men in scoring postion. Brett Wallace's groundout made scored Ingram, while Carlos Pupo's grounder was misplayed by Lansing's Kevin Ahrens, allowing Kozma to score and make it 2-0.

After Paul Vazquez walked, Tommy Pham laced a single into center, plating Pupo and pushing the lead to 3-0. Nick People's then drew a walk to load the bases for Ross Oeder, who cleared them with a three-run double that pushed the lead to 6-0.

Quad Cities would extend the lead in the third when Vazquez hit a solo homer to right field, making it a 7-0 affair.

Cheng was finally chased from the game in the fifth when Pham blasted a two-run dinger to right, extending the lead to 9-2.

Cheng (4-5) took the loss after allowing nine runs, five earned, over 4 1/3 innings while surrendering seven hits. He also struck out four and walked three.

The River Bandits hit their final homer of the night in the seventh when Aaron Luna drilled a solo blast over the left field wall, which made it an 11-2 game.

Yohermyn Chavez led the way for the Lugnuts offense, as he scored three of Lansing's four runs. He finished the game 3-for-4 with a homer. He fell a double shy of the cycle.

Ryan Kulik (2-3) notched the win for the River Bandits. He tossed five innings and allowed just two runs on five hits.

Lansing (59-45, 20-14) will continue the homestand Saturday night by hosting the Clinton LumberKings (57-44 ,16-18). LAFCU Fireworks will follow the game, which begins at 7:05 p.m.
