Edmonton Oil Kings News Release

Seattle, WA - The Edmonton Oil Kings got a late goal from Logan Dowhaniuk as they defeated the Seattle Thunderbirds 3-2 in Game 4 of the WHL Championship at the accesso ShoWare Center on Wednesday night to take a 3-1 series lead.

The Oil Kings found themselves down 1-0 after 20 minutes of play after Seattle got a late power play goal from Lucas Ciona with 3:57 left in the opening frame as he was able muscle home a rebound at the top of the Edmonton crease.

In the second period, the Oil Kings quickly turned the tide getting two quick goals from Josh Williams to take a 2-1 lead less than six minutes into the middle stanza.

At 3:37, Williams tucked a backhand between the legs of Thomas Milic after a rebound off a Carson Golder shot.

Then 2:13 later, Williams bagged his third of the post-season after shielding the puck on his backhand from the right-circle to the left-circle, dancing around a Seattle defender and in the process getting to his forehand to snap a shot over the left-shoulder of Milic.

The Thunderbirds had a response of their own however, as Jared Davidson, on another Seattle power play, tied the game at two as he ripped a shot from the left-circle through a crowd of bodies at the 12:53 mark to send the two clubs to the intermission in a tie.

In the second period, Sebastian Cossa made 16 saves for the Oil Kings to help maintain the level score.

In the third period, Cossa would make six more saves, including a couple on a late Seattle power play to set the stage for Dowhaniuk to provide some late-game heroics.

Right after the Seattle power play expired, they iced the puck and with just 4.7 seconds left in regulation time, Williams got the puck to the blue line and Dowhaniuk pounded it top-shelf for the winner.

Cossa made 32 saves for the Oil Kings in the win, while Milic turned away 20 for the Thunderbirds. The Oil Kings went 0-for-2 on the power play, Seattle was 2-for-5.

Next up, the Oil Kings and Thunderbirds head back across the boarder for Game 5 on Saturday night at Rogers Place with puck drop set for 7:00 PM in ICE District.
