Auburn Doubledays News Release

AUBURN, NY - Both teams hit two home runs, but the Yankees didn't only score via the longball as Auburn fell to Staten Island 7-3 in game two of a three-game series.

In the very first inning, the Yankees scored four runs, all without the homer. Staten Island's four runs came across thanks to an RBI single from Jhalan Jackson and a bases clearing double by Eduardo de Oleo.

Auburn responded in the bottom of the first inning after Rafael Bautista and Andrew Stevenson grounded out. Kelvin Gutierrez singled up the middle with two outs. Rhett Wiseman stepped in next and hit the first homer of his professional career, a two-run shot over the right field wall.

An inning later in the second, Edwin Lora dug in with one out. The shortstop turned on an inside pitch and launched a solo homer, his first of the season, down the line in left. Lora's homer put the game at 4-3 in favor of the Yankees.

From Lora's homer in the second with one out until the start of the top of the eighth, nobody scored. Over that stretch, Staten Island's starter Derek Callahan was brilliant. The lefty at one point retired 12 hitters in a row. Callahan went 6.2 innings, and 12 of the 20 outs he recorded came by groundout. His final line was 6.2 IP, 6 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 2 BB, and 1 K as he earned his third victory of the season.

In the eighth inning, the Yankees added three insurance runs on their first and second homers of the night. The first run came when Thairo Estrada hit a solo shot to left center, his second of the year. The second and third runs came when Eduardo de Oleo hit a two-run homer to left center, his first of the year. Those longballs gave Staten Island a 7-3 lead.

Auburn had runners on first and third with two outs in the eighth, but couldn't bring across a run. In the ninth, the Doubledays were retired in order.

McKenzie Mills took the loss for the Doubledays. The lefty's line was 1 IP, 3 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 2 BB, and 1 K.

The final game of the series is tomorrow night at 7:05 PM and all general admission tickets at just $1 dollar! Mariano Rivera III makes his second start for Auburn against Matt Bornes making his fourth for Staten Island.

WP - Derek Callahan (3-1)
