July 12, 2015 - New York-Penn League (NYPL)
Williamsport Crosscutters News Release
The Williamsport Crosscutters knocked off the Connecticut Tigers 3-2 on Sunday afternoon at Susquehanna Bank Park to run their winning streak to four games. The Cutters will look for a sweep of the series tomorrow night. Williamsport tallied just five hits in the game with the biggest coming off the bat of Jan Hernandez in the second inning.
The Cutters hit their third home run in as many days to take an early lead against the Tigers. Jan Hernandez hit his team leading fourth home run of the season with Jose Pujols on base to give the Cutters a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning. The two runs and two hits would be all that Connecticut starter Trey Teakell would surrender working just three innings. The Cutters got three scoreless innings from Luke Leftwich, who made his first start of the season.
Leftwich allowed just two hits on the night with both of them being singles in the second inning. Leftwich would go on to strike out two batters while walking one. Tyler Gilbert made his third appearance of the season for the Cutters turning in four innings of relief allowing just one run. The Tigers would score their first run of the game in the fourth inning after an error by Hernandez allowed a runner to reach third base. Josh Lester would make it a 2-1 game driving in the runner with a sacrifice fly to left field.
The Tigers tied the game 2-2 in the eighth inning on a groundout by Victor Padron. Williamsport would answer with the go ahead and eventual winning run in the bottom half of the inning thanks to a bases loaded walk to Pujols. Juan Figueroa picked up his first win of the season and Rob Tasin closed the door for the Cutters earning his fifth save this year. The Cutters have now won four straight games and are 13-1 at home this season.
