Syracuse, NY - The Syracuse Chiefs used a five-run fourth inning to beat the Buffalo Bisons, 8-3, on Saturday night at NBT Bank Stadium. Chris Dominguez collected four hits, including two doubles, three RBIs, and he scored two runs for the Chiefs en route to the win.
Buffalo (37-37) struck first in the top of the second inning. With two outs, Richard Ureî=B1a singled. Reese McGuire followed with a two-run home run to right field that gave the Bisons a 2-0 lead.
Syracuse (34-46) got on the board in the bottom of the second. Matt Reynolds led off with a single. Two batters later, Moisés Sierra walked to put runners at first and second base. Two batters after that, Chris Dominguez singled up the middle, scoring Reynolds to cut the Buffalo edge to one, 2-1.
The Bisons extended the lead in the third. Gift Ngoepe led off with a solo homer to straightaway-center field to make it a 3-1 ballgame.
The Chiefs took the lead and put the game away in the fourth. With Reynolds at second base, José Marmolejos at first and no outs, Moisés Sierra doubled to right-center field scoring Reynolds to trim the Buffalo lead to one, 3-2. Yadiel Hernandez followed with a single that scored Marmolejos, tying the game, 3-3. Chris Dominguez then doubled off the left-field wall, bringing home Sierra to give Syracuse a 4-3 lead. Bengie Gonzalez followed with a sacrifice fly to right field, moving Dominguez to third and scoring Hernandez to make it a 5-3 ballgame. Andrew Stevenson then grounded into a ball to first base. Dominguez broke home on the play and slid safely into the plate ahead of the tag for a 6-3 Chiefs advantage.
Syracuse added to its lead in the fifth. With one out, Sierra and Hernandez both singled, placing runners at first and second. Dominguez followed with a double off the right-center-field wall that scored Sierra to put Syracuse up 7-3.
The Chiefs scored another run in the eighth. Dominguez reached base on an infield single. With Gonzalez batting, a wild pitch moved Dominguez to second. Gonzalez then singled to shallow right field, and Dominguez scored on the play when Buffalo second baseman Lourdes Gurriel Jr. made an errant toss to first base as the Chiefs took a five-run lead, 8-3.
Syracuse and Buffalo finish their three-game series with Sunday matinee. RHP Austin Voth will start for the Chiefs while RHP Sean Reid-Foley will be on the mound for the Bisons. First pitch is scheduled for 1:05 p.m.
