June 30, 2018 - International League (IL1)
Charlotte Knights News Release
(UPTOWN CHARLOTTE, NC) - RHP Michael Kopech struck-out eight batters over six solid innings, but the Charlotte Knights dropped game three of their four-game series to the Gwinnett Stripers by a score of 5-3 on Saturday night from BB&T Ballpark in Uptown Charlotte.
Kopech (3-6, 4.42) allowed three runs (one earned) on three hits over six innings of work on Saturday, but was saddled with the loss. The 22-year-old right-hander -- the top pitching prospect in the Chicago White Sox organization -- took over the International League lead in strikeouts with his eight-strikeout performance on Saturday. For the season, Kopech now has 105 punchouts in 2018. He threw 97 pitches (54 for strikes) in a solid effort on Saturday.
Offensively for the Knights, shortstop José RondÃ"n continued his hot hitting. RondÃ"n launched a two-run home run in the third inning off Gwinnett LHP Luiz Gohara (1-3, 6.17), which tied the game at 2-2. RondÃ"n finished 1-for-4 on the night with his eighth home run of the season. Second baseman Jake Elmore extended his on-base streak to 23-straight games after drawing a walk in the third inning. Elmore's streak is the longest-active on-base streak in the IL.
Eloy Jiménez, the top prospect in the White Sox organization, went 1-for-4 at the plate with his first career Triple-A double. In all, the Knights managed a total of four hits.
The Knights will conclude their four-game series against the Stripers on Sunday with a 5:05 p.m. game. Gates are set to open at 4:00 p.m. for game four of the series. Pre-game radio coverage is set for 4:50 p.m. on 730 The Game ESPN Charlotte. The "Voice of the Charlotte Knights" Matt Swierad and long-time Knights broadcaster Mike Pacheco will have the call for all of the action. The game will also be broadcast live on NBC Sports Chicago with 1993 American League Cy Young Award winner Jack McDowell joining the TV booth. The game will also be broadcast live in Spanish on 102.3 FM Latina with broadcasters Rafael Bastidas and Ernesto Hurtado.
