Lincoln Saltdogs News Release
LINCOLN, NE - The Lincoln Saltdogs dropped a game in heartbreaking fashion on Sunday, losing 5-4 at home to the Sioux Falls Canaries. Lincoln falls to 1-5 on the second half of the season.
The Saltdogs took a 4-2 lead into the top of the ninth inning, but the Canaries rallied for three runs against Lincoln closer Chris Thompson (0-2), who gave up three hits and two walks in the frame. A two-run, bases-loaded single by Cory Harris tied the game with one out, and one out later, Patrick Reilly singled in the game-winning run from third. After the play, Saltdogs catcher Shawn McGill and manager Marty Scott were ejected for arguing balls and strikes. Lincoln still had a chance to tie or win the game in the bottom of the ninth, but Ryan Grant retired the Dogs in order for his first save.
Lincoln had led the game from the first inning, scoring on a double-play grounder and an RBI double by Steve Alexander. The Saltdogs added a run in the second inning on a sacrifice fly by Josh Burrus. Sioux Falls scored its first two runs in the third inning, but Lincoln starter Brian Campbell settled down after that, lasting six innings and giving up just six hits. The Dogs added an insurance run in the seventh inning, on an RBI single by Pichi Balet.
Shea McFeely finished the night 3-for-5 with a run scored. Burrus and Deacon Burns each had two hits for Lincoln, while Jake Jadlowski singled in the seventh for his first hit as a professional.
Lincoln has an off-day on Monday, before heading to Sioux City on Tuesday for a three-game series. Lefty Zac Cline will make the next start for the Saltdogs.
