Sioux City Explorers News Release

St. Paul, MN.....The Sioux City Explorers scored four runs after two out in the ninth inning to defeat St. Paul 6-4 Sunday at Midway Stadium.

Alex Llanos doubled to right center field to break the tie which scored Dustin Jones and Nick McCoola which proved to be the winning margin.

With the victory the Explorers go back into first place in the American Association North after two games in the three-game series from St. Paul.

St. Paul had a 4-2 lead going into the ninth with veteran relief pitcher Kerry Ligtenberg on the mound. With two outs in the ninth after Derek Schmerhorn had singled, Brett Mieras singled to score Schmerhorn to cut the lead to 4-3. Dustin Jones followed with a base hit and then Nick McCoola singled to score Jones with the tying run. That set up the winning two-run double by Llanos.

Brett Reid entered the game in the bottom of the ninth and it wasn't easy for the right hander. St. Paul had a couple of hits and runners at first and second with one out. Reid struck out Josh Alley and then got Brent Krause to pop up to shortstop for the final out and record his 14th save of the season.

The Explorers will have an off day Monday and then return to Lewis and Clark Park Tuesday to begin a three-game series with Lincoln. Game time Tuesday will be 7:05.
