GRAND PRAIRIE - JB Tucker was 2-for-4 with two runs batted in as the AirHogs defeated the Cats 7-1 on Sunday night.
The AirHogs broke a scoreless tie in the fifth inning as Chad Gabriel drew a leadoff walk. The next batter, Tucker tripled home a run for a 1-0 Grand Prairie lead. The next batter, Jonathan Dziomba collected his first professional hit, an infield RBI single for a 2-0 AirHogs advantage.
Dziomba had three-hits in his professional debut for Grand Prairie.
They added two more runs in the sixth on an RBI triple by Mike Conroy and a sacrifice fly by Javier Brito.
The Cats got on the scoreboard in the eighth inning as Ryan Patterson smacked a solo homer to left to cut the Grand Prairie lead to 4-1. It was Patterson's 10th home run of the season and third in the last two games. But the Cats left two runners on in the eighth before Grand Prairie scored three times in the bottom of the eighth to break the game open with a 7-1 lead.
Dimitri Camareno notched the win in his first professional start. He went seven innings and allowed a run on five hits.
Joel Kirsten (5-4) took the loss as he permitted four runs on eight hits in seven innings of work. Kirsten retired the first 11 batters in the game before allowing consecutive singles in the fourth to Cesar Nicolas and Mike Conroy.
James Morrison earned his ninth save of the season as he did not allow a run or a hit in the final 1 1/3 innings.
The two teams complete the three-game series on Monday night at 7:05 p.m. in Grand Prairie. Matt Gibbs (1-1) will start for the Cats with Kieran Mattison (4-3) on the hill for the AirHogs.
