Dogs' Final Homestand Starts Friday

CHARLESTON, SC - The RiverDogs close out the 2006 season with four home games with a chance to set the all-time Charleston professional baseball attendance record as the RiverDogs, the second-year affiliate of the New York Yankees, host the Columbus Catfish, a Los Angeles Dodgers affiliate, at Joseph P. Riley, Jr. Park Friday through Monday. The RiverDogs intend to play the games as scheduled. Should the inclement weather cause a postponement or cancellation then the RiverDogs will send out a press release immediately. With four home contests remaining, Charleston aims for the club's attendance record of 259,007 which was set in 2003. The team needs to average more than 2,054 fans to each of the final home games to set the record. Up to this point in the 2006 season, the club is averaging 3,981 clicks of the turnstiles per game.

The final homestand of '06 begins on Friday, September 1, with the final "GEICO Friday Night Fireworks." The game features a post-game fireworks extravaganza as well as the post-game fortune cookie giveaway, as the RiverDogs continue their season-long celebration of the Chinese Year of the Dog. In addition to the post-game fireworks show, it is also the season's last Military Appreciation Night, Presented by Force Protection Industries, as service men and women from around the Lowcountry will be in attendance. Additionally, the Veterans Affairs Hospital will host a mass CPR training throughout the evening on the main concourse. The game is also being presented by 103.5 FM WEZL. The fireworks display follows the 7:05 p.m. game.

On Saturday, September 2, the RiverDogs again host "Win the Boss' Money Night." The first 1,000 fans through the gates receive commemorative Joseph P. Riley, Jr. Park 10th Anniversary caps courtesy of WTAT TV Fox 24. Inside randomly selected caps, 30 lucky fans will receive a card informing them they have been selected to have the opportunity to "Win the Boss' Money." Immediately following the game, the selected fans will be escorted to the field and they will scramble to collect as many dollar bills they can as $1,000 worth of George Washington's will be scattered all over the outfield grass. First pitch is slated for 7:05 p.m.

Sunday, September 3, is the final Dog Day at Riley Park as fans are invited to bring along their canine companions to the ballpark. It is also the last Family Day, Presented by Charleston County Parks & Recreation and the Charleston IMAX Theater. Family Sundays offer parents and their children the opportunity to play catch on the field prior the game, and kids are permitted to run the bases and secure autographs from RiverDogs players following the contest while outside of the ballpark free pony rides are offered to kids. The RiverDogs will continue their food drive in cooperation the Lowcountry Food Bank, and any fan who brings four canned items will receive a free general admission ticket to the game. The Lowcountry Food Bank distributes 10 million pounds of food annually and serves all 10 coastal communities. Sunday's game is also presented by Cat Country 107.5 FM and the afternoon game is set for a 4:05 p.m. first pitch.

The final game of the '06 season is scheduled for Labor Day-Monday, September 4, with a special 6:05 p.m. game time. The RiverDogs will be hosting "Back to the Beach Fan Appreciation Day" as the club gives away many valuable prizes as a way to thank the fans for another wonderful season. Following the game, fans will be treated to another fireworks extravaganza, finishing the season with a true-to-life bang. It is also a Dogs With A Cause Night featuring Operation Homes.
