CHARLESTON, SC - The South Atlantic League announced Wednesday that the Charleston RiverDogs and the Greensboro Grasshoppers have been named co-recipients of the Club Merit Award of 2006. The award is given to recognize an outstanding overall operation by an organization.

The league announced their yearly Outstanding Achievement Awards on Tuesday and a presentation will be made at the 7th Annual South Atlantic League Awards Luncheon on Thursday, Oct. 26 at the Greensboro Marriott Downtown in Greensboro, NC. The awards were voted on by all 16 league members.

The RiverDogs, a second-year affiliate of the 26-time World Champion New York Yankees, are on the verge of completing a record-setting season as the all-time Charleston professional baseball attendance mark should be eclipsed during the final four-game homestand which begins Friday.

"What an honor it is to be recognized by your peers in this way," said General Manager Dave Echols. "We have had an excellent season all around, and our staff has worked hard to continue to make the RiverDogs a top entertainment attraction in the Lowcountry. Although it is rewarding to be given this prestigious award, as an organization it will make us continue to work hard to maintain and improve the quality of our operation."

Additional award recipients include the Best Playing Field (Lakewood), General Manager of the Year (Donald Moore, Greensboro), Groundskeeper of the Year (Greg Elliot, Lake County), Trainer of the Year (Tomas Vera, Kannapolis) and Bat Person of the Year (Steve Alston, Greensboro).
