Hickory Crawdads News Release

After hitting a three-run homer in the first inning in Tuesday night's game against Hickory, Lexington Legend DH JR Towles smashed a two-run first inning shot Wednesday night and drove home four runs as the Legends evened the series at one game apiece with a 7-2 victory in front of 1,157 fans at LP Frans Stadium.

Crawdad starter Luis Valdez got the first two outs of the opening inning before 2B Eric King reached on an error. Towles followed with a no doubt drive to left field that made it 2-0.

Lexington upped the lead to 3-0 in the third using two infield singles, an error and a fielders choice to score the run. Hickory got within 3-1 in the bottom of the third when 1B Tony Mansolino led off with a double, moved to second on a wild pitch, and scored on CF Wanell Macia's sacrifice fly.

Lexington regained a three run advantage when 1B Mark Ori led off the fourth with a solo homer against Valdez(7-8). The Hickory starter allowed four runs (one earned) on five hits in six innings in the loss.

Hickory cut the lead to 4-2 in the bottom of the fourth inning. Crawdad 2B Shelby Ford led off with a double. He moved to third on a ground ball out and scored on RF Brad Corley's infield single.

Lexington starter Ryan McKeller (4-3) picked up the win with five innings of two run, six hit ball. Sergio Perez and Chris Blazek each pitched two scoreless innings of relief for the Legends.

Lexington put the game out of reach with a three run seventh against Hickory reliever Jake Cuffman. Cuffman hit two batters, gave up two hits, and threw one wild pitch as Lexington increased the lead to 7-2.

The two teams play at 7pm Thursday night. Crawdad right hander Mike Crotta meets Lexington righty Brad James.
