
Martinez called up to Potomac

SAVANNAH, Ga. - Right-handed pitcher Carlos Martinez joined the Potomac Nationals, Hi-A affiliate of the Washington Nationals, Wednesday. Martinez has spent the entire season with the Sand Gnats and leads the team with 118.1 innings pitched this season.
The Nationals have not yet assigned anyone to replace Martinez who was scheduled to start Saturday's game in Rome. The team is now two players under the maximum roster size of 25. The roster dropped to 24 players on August 19 when Reggie Fitzpatrick went on the disabled list. With the departure of Martinez, the roster now shrinks to 23.
Martinez is 8-16 lifetime with an ERA of 4.91. He has gone 7.0 innings in each of his last three starts and has an ERA of 2.57 over that span. His longest outing was a team high 8.0 innings on July 28 when he allowed just one run on four hits.
Martinez is expected to bolster Potomac's starting rotation as the team is scheduled to play a doubleheader Friday in New Britain, Conn.
