
'Dogs drop to 5-9 against the Thunder

(Portland, ME) - Trenton's Chase Wright (8-2) pitched 5.1 IP on one run and his offense scored five times in the sixth inning, lifting the visiting Thunder (60-37) to an 8-1 win over the Sea Dogs (53-43) Thursday night at Hadlock Field.
Portland falls to 6.5 games behind the Thunder for the top spot in the Northern Division. On the season, Trenton has taken 9 of 14 from the Sea Dogs.
LHP Dustin Richardson (6-6) took the loss for Portland, yielding four runs on six hits in 5.1 IP. The Sea Dogs took a 1-0 lead in the fifth inning off Wright. SS Argenis Diaz led off the fifth inning with a double and scored on single by 2B Iggy Suarez. Diaz and 1B Lars Anderson each went 1-for-4 with a double in their Double-A debut.
Trenton scored five times off Richardson in the sixth inning, sending 10 batters to the plate. DH James Cooper led off with double and scored on 3B Walter Ibarra's run-scoring double down the right-field line. The RBI was the first for Ibarra in Double-A. 2B Reegie Corona moved Ibarra to third base with a sacrifice-bunt but SS Ramiro Pena and CF Austin Jackson (4-for-4, RBI, BB) had run-scoring hits to knock Richardson out of the game.
RHP Daniel Bard was greeted by an RBI single from 1B Chris Malec and a run-scoring double by LF Colin Curtis.
Bard worked 1.2 IP on two hits and one run. Chad Rhoades allowed three runs on four hits in the eighth inning.
Trenton's bullpen of Jose Valdez, Zach Kroenke, Anthony Claggett and Oneli Perez worked a combined 3.2 scoreless frames on one hit, two walks and seven strikeouts.
The two teams play game two of their series on Friday night at Hadlock Field. RHP Kyle Jackson (5-1, 5.19) faces RHP Eric Hacker (5-1, 2.37) - game time is 7:00 PM.
Notes...Jeff Corsaletti went 1-for-5 in his Triple-A debut with the PawSox...David Ortiz blasted his a home run in his second at-bat...Bryan Pritz went 0-for-2 with 2 walks in his return to Portland.
