Harrisburg Senators News Release
Harrisburg, PA - The Harrisburg Senators were haunted by walks in the late stages of a 4-3 loss to the Altoona Curve, Thursday at Blair County Ballpark. The Curve scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the 8th to snap the Senators' four-game win streak.
The Senators jumped on top with a pair of runs in the top of the 2nd inning. After a one-out double by Bill Rhinehart, Devin Ivany singled to put runners at the corners. Javi Herrera blooped an RBI single to right and Seth Bynum followed with an RBI single to right to make it 2-0.
The lead didn't last long as the Curve rallied with two out in the bottom of the 2nd. Steve Lerud singled and Luis Cruz drilled a two-run homer to left to tie it at 2-2.
It stayed that way until the top of the 6th. Edgardo Baez and Rhinehart hit back-to-back doubles to plate a run and make it 3-2.
The Curve threatened with two out in the bottom of the 7th. They loaded the bases, but LHP Tim Bittner induced a groundout to end the inning.
Altoona cashed in on an opportunity in the bottom of the 8th. RHP Adam Carr walked Brad Corley to lead off the inning and Jason Delaney followed with a double to right, putting the tying run at third and the go-ahead run at second. Lerud hit a sacrifice fly to center to tie the game and Cruz singled home another run to give the Curve a 4-3 advantage.
The Senators put the tying run into scoring position in the 9th as Seth Bynum reached on an error and moved to second on a wild pitch. But RHP Juan Mateo struck out the side to close it out.
Mateo picked up the win to improve his record to 3-1. Carr took the loss to fall to 1-1.
The Senators dropped to 54-42. The Curve upped their record to 42-54.
The Senators and Curve continue the four-game series at Blair County Ballpark on Friday at 7:05 PM. LHP Justin Jones (1-0, 6.35 ERA) goes to the hill against Altoona RHP Luis Munoz (1-3, 7.65 ERA).
