Lincoln Saltdogs News Release
LINCOLN, Nebraska - The Lincoln Saltdogs dropped both games in a doubleheader against the Winnipeg Goldeyes at Haymarket Park on Saturday night, losing Game 1, 3-0, before dropping Game 2, 8-1.
Game 1:
Josh Altmann went 2-for-3 with a double, but the 'Dogs were shutout for a second consecutive game in a 3-0 loss to the Winnipeg Goldeyes.
Altmann was awaiting on deck as the tying run before Ryan Long struck out to end the game, and Lincoln (20-16) dropped a fifth game in six against Winnipeg (20-17).
The Goldeyes took a lead on an unearned run when Ian Sagdal opened the scoring with an RBI single in the 1st. The Goldeyes held on to that lead until the 7th, when Tristan Pompey scored on a wild pitch and Sagdal added another with an RBI single.
Matt Cronin allowed an unearned run over three innings in his first start, while Josh Norwood and Jonathan Cheshire combined to toss three scoreless innings. Jesse Stallings allowed two runs in the 7th.
Hunter Clanin's on-base streak came to an end at 28 straight games, but Randy Norris singled to extend his hitting streak to a team-best 12 games.
Game 2
Eddy Martinez pitched a scoreless inning in relief, but the 'Dogs were swept in the doubleheader with an 8-1 loss to the Winnipeg Goldeyes.
Martinez - Lincoln's second position player to pitch this year - reached 96 mph with his fastball, but the 'Dogs (20-17) lost for the third straight game and fell out of the top three in the West Division for the first time this year.
Martinez drove in Clanin with an RBI double to make it 2-1 Goldeyes (21-17) in the 2nd, but Winnipeg scored three in the 3rd, one in the 4th and two in the 6th to win a sixth game in the last seven tries against Lincoln.
Norris went 0-for-3 and had a 12-game hitting streak come to an end.
The series concludes on Sunday. First pitch is scheduled for 1:05 p.m., and pregame coverage begins at 12:35 on ESPN Lincoln 101.5 FM/1480 AM.
