Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks News Release
Fargo-Moorhead left fielder Rymer Liriano drove in five runs and saved the potential game-tying run from scoring in the ninth inning to lead the RedHawks (28-11) to a 11-10 victory over the Kane County Cougars (20-18) on Saturday night. With a Kane County runner on third base and nobody out, Liriano caught a fly ball and threw a perfect strike to catcher Christian Correa from the outfield grass to gun down the tagging runner at home plate. 3,094 people were on hand at Newman Outdoor Field to watch the series-tying win.
Kane County opened the scoring in the top of the first inning on a two-run home run which cleared the batter's eye from center fielder Jimmy Kerrigan (3-for-5, 2 HR, 5 RBI, 2 R). The RedHawks answered right away in the bottom of the inning as they scored four runs, two of which came on a home run from designated hitter Drew Ward.
The Cougars responded with five unanswered runs to take a 7-4 lead heading into the bottom of the fourth. Right-handed starter Davis Feldman allowed all seven of those runs (five earned) on nine hits and a walk while striking out five Kane County batters.
The RedHawks tied the game on home runs in the fourth and fifth inning, a solo home run by Peter Maris and a two-run home run from Rymer Liriano. Cougars starting pitcher Ben Allison allowed the seven runs on eight hits and three walks while striking out four batters in five innings pitched.
Kane County continued the back-and-forth action in the sixth inning as Ryan Kerrigan hit a three-run home run, his second homer of the game, to give Kane County the 10-7 lead. RHP Luke Lind (3-1) earned the win despite allowing the home run. Lind allowed the three runs on three hits and three walks while striking out two batters in two innings pitched.
Fargo-Moorhead responded right away in the bottom of the inning with four runs. Rymer Liriano delivered one of the biggest hits of the night with a bases-clearing double with two outs to give the RedHawks the 11-10 lead.
RHP C.J. Carter (0-4) gave up the four runs and earned the loss and was pulled after 0.2 innings pitched. He gave up two hits and three walks while striking out a batter. Jack Anderson and Ryan Richardson pitched the final 2.1 innings for Kane County and allowed no hits or runs.
The Cougars threatened to tie the game as they got runners in scoring position in the seventh, eighth and ninth innings. However, relief pitchers Joe Jones and Alex DuBord worked around the threats and kept the one-run lead. DuBord pitched in the ninth inning and earned his 11th save of the season after working around a leadoff triple.
Fargo-Moorhead and Kane County will conclude their three-game series with a 1:00 p.m. game on Sunday afternoon. LHP Kevin McGovern (4-1, 5.00 ERA) will start in the series finale for the RedHawks and is set to face RHP Ryan Tapani (4-3, 4.21 ERA).
