BINGHAMTON, NY - Despite out-shooting the Binghamton Senators in every period and 40-to-28 overall, the Hamilton Bulldogs dropped a 7-1 decision on Wednesday night at Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena. The loss extends the Bulldogs' franchise-long losing streak to 10 games and ties their franchise record winless streak of 10 games set from October 8th-to-31st during the 1999-2000 season. The 'Dogs record now drops to 31-31-3-5 through 70 games on the campaign.
With two quick goals in the first period, Binghamton took a 2-0 lead. Josh Hennessy opened the scoring just 1:30 into the game with his 20th goal of the season. The Senators then took a two-goal lead at the 9:16 mark when Nick Foligno notched his fourth tally of the campaign.
The 'Dogs outshot the Sens 14-to-10 in the middle stanza, but surrendered two more goals and fell behind 4-0 after 40 minutes. Alexander Nikulin (8:18) and Matt Kinch (19:05) were the second-period goal scorers for the Senators.
Binghamton added two more goals in a span of 48 seconds in the final frame to take a 6-0 lead. Nikulin buried his second marker and third point of the night at 5:33 of the period, before Niko Dimitrakos potted his 19th goal of the campaign at 6:21.
Corey Locke got Hamilton on the scoreboard at 14:07 of the third period with his team-leading 23rd tally of the season. Greg Stewart and Andrew Archer picked up assists on the 6-1 goal.
With just 36 seconds remaining in the game, Denis Hamel registered a shorthanded breakaway goal for the Sens to round out the game's scoring at 7-1. Justin Mapletoft earned the lone helper on the play.
Between the pipes, Yann Danis made 21 saves on 28 shots to record his eighth loss in as many starts for Hamilton, while Binghamton's Brian Elliot made 39 saves on 40 shots to earn the win.
The Bulldogs were 0-for-6 on the power play, surrendered a shorthanded goal and went 4-for-6 on the penalty kill.
Hamilton returns to action on Friday, March 28th at 7:05 p.m. when they travel to Wachovia Arena at Casey Place to take on the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins.
