LOWELL, Mass. - Led by Mike Ouelette's hat trick, the Hartford Wolf Pack defeated the Lowell Devils by a score of 8-2 on Wednesday night at the Tsongas Arena.

Though the Devils had fought back at the end of the first to tie the game, 2-2, the Wolf Pack blew the game open with four goals in middle stanza.

With Hartford skating on the man-advantage, Andrew Hutchinson put his team ahead for good with a one-timer from the near dot that found the top left corner at 4:43.

Two fortuitous bounces for the Wolf Pack resulted in the next two goals that helped give them a 5-2 lead. Lowell won a defensive zone face-off and tried to clear the zone, but a bounce off a stanchion behind the net sent the puck right back to Hugh Jessiman, who tucked it inside past the far post at 5:45 before Frank Doyle could recover.

Ouelette was the other benefactor as Brad Brown's shot ricocheted off of Lowell blueliner Oliver Magnan and into the slot, where Ouelette had a wide-open net to throw in the rebound at 11:55. Pierre-Alexandre Parenteau added another with 2:40 until the second break to make the score, 6-2, in favor of Hartford.

The Wolf Pack scored early and often in staking a 2-0 lead just 1:40 into the game. Parenteau needed only 41 seconds to get the first goal of the contest, intercepting the puck at the Lowell blueline and sliding a pass across the crease for a Greg Moore one-timer that found the back of the net. Less than a minute later, another 2-on-1 for the Wolf Pack resulted in Ouelette throwing a shoulder fake before slipping the puck around Doyle.

Lowell would battle back to even things up before the end of the period. Erik Rasmussen picked up his second goal of the season at 6:18 when Ryan Murphy pulled the puck out of the far corner and hit the streaking center for a wrister that sailed inside the right post. Olli Malmivaara then knotted the game at 2-2 on the power play, as his slap shot from the blueline blew past a screened David Leneveu with 1:58 left until the first intermission.

Ouelette completed his first AHL hat trick with a power play goal at 5:45 of the third period to make it a five-goal cushion for Hartford. Jared Owens fired a slapshot under the crossbar with 6.3 seconds remaining in regulation to finish the scoring.

The Devils were 1-for-7 on the man-advantage and 3-for-5 on the penalty kill. Doyle made 24 saves on the night.
