Norfolk Admirals News Release
NORFOLK, VA - Three Hershey Bears (37-28-1-5) power play goals were the difference as the Bears defeated the Norfolk Admirals (25-40-2-5) the 4-1 on Wednesday night at Norfolk Scope Arena.
The Bears took a 1-0 lead in the game's first five minutes. Chris Bourque took a point shot that deflected off an Admirals' skate to the crease. Andrew Gordon banked a shot off Kyle Wilson's stick and into the net for a power play goal at 4:53.
After a scoreless first three-quarters of the second stanza, the teams exchanged goals in under a minute late in the period. Bracken Kearns intercepted a Bears pass in the Norfolk zone and sent a pass from the one blue line to the other where Radek Smolenak had snuck past the Hershey defense. He broke in alone on Bears' backstop Frederic Cassivi, deking forehand before sending a backhand shot underneath Cassivi's outstretched left arm to tie the game at 1-1 at 16:30.
The Bears re-claimed the lead just 39 seconds later. Steve Pinizzotto sent a backhand pass from the left corner to the slot and Andrew Joudrey one-timed the puck five-hole on Norfolk netminder Jonathan Boutin at 17:09.
Hershey took charge of the game with a pair of power play goals in the final frame. Wilson netted his second goal of the night on a rebound as the Bears skated with a five-on-three advantage at 8:17. Jonathan Paiement staked the Bears to a 4-1 advantage with an unassisted power play goal at 9:57.
Jonathan Boutin (35 shots, 31 saves) got the loss. Frederic Cassivi (25 shots, 24 saves) picked up the win.
Norfolk was 0-5 on the power play. Hershey was 3-5.
