Lincoln Saltdogs News Release

LINCOLN, NE - The Lincoln Saltdogs shut down Pensacola for the second straight night on Friday, winning 4-2 at Haymarket Park. Lincoln improves to 29-17 on the season.

Saltdogs starter Chris Cullen, pitching on just two days' rest, kept the Pelicans off-balance all night. Cullen allowed just one run on three hits and a walk over six innings, striking out two to earn his first win. Pensacola did tack on a run in the seventh, but Adam Daniels came on to throw 1.1 innings of scoreless relief, and Chris Thompson struck out two in a perfect ninth inning to earn his 15th save.

Lincoln, meanwhile, got all they would need in the first inning against Pensacola starter Jared Gothreaux (4-5). Gavin Dickey and Rafael Alvarez both singled to start the frame, with both runners moving up on an errant throw to third. Juan Richardson grounded out to drive in the first run, and after a walk, Juan Camacho followed with a sacrifice fly to score another. Shawn McGill and Roberto Alvarez both singled to load the bases, and Albenis Machado drew a bases-loaded walk to make it 3-0. Lincoln tacked on an insurance run in the seventh on McGill's RBI single.

Despite Lincoln's win, Sioux Falls clinched at least a tie for the first-half title in the American Association North with its win over Sioux City. The Saltdogs have to win both Saturday and Sunday against Pensacola, and have the Pheasants lose twice to the Explorers, in order to tie for the first-half championship.

McGill finished the night 3-for-4 with an RBI, while Rafael Alvarez went 4-for-5 and scored once. Roberto Alvarez ended up 2-for-4.

The two teams play game three of their four-game series Saturday night at 7:05pm. Lincoln's starter has not been announced.
