Iowa Cubs News Release
DES MOINES - The Oklahoma City Dodgers (2-1) took the final 6-5 edge over the Iowa Cubs (1-2) after a 10th and 11th inning that saw a combined 10 hits, two errors and 11 runs scored following nine shutout frames.
The scoreboard was filled with zeros after nine. Oklahoma City was the first to put up crooked numbers with three runs in the top of the 10th. After responding with a pair of runs in the bottom of the inning, Iowa's fate was seemingly sealed with two down. With Wynton Bernard on first, Chris Gimenez skied a fly ball to right field that knocked off Henry Ramos' glove. Going on the pitch, Bernard made it home to knot the game and force an 11th.
The Dodgers immediately took back the lead as Rob Segedin looped a single to bring in the runner from second. Oklahoma City put up two more in the inning on a two-RBI double from Breyvic Valera, leaving the Dodgers ahead for good.
Iowa answered with a run in the bottom of the 11th with two-out RBI hits from Ryan Court and Bijan Rademacher, but the I-Cubs fell short of another comeback.
Starter Luke Farrell dealt in his Iowa Cubs debut, sitting down the first 10 batters he faced. With one out in the fourth, he walked Henry Ramos to break up perfection, and then gave up a leadoff hit in the fifth to Max Muncy, spoiling the no-hit effort. Farrell's night ended after 5.2 innings with the righty allowing three hits, walking two and fanning six.
On the opposite bump, Brock Stewart was just as strong, allowing two hits, walking two and fanning six over 5.2 frames. Adam Liberatore (1-0) took home the win, Alberto Baldonado (1-1) the loss and Pat Venditte the save.
Sunday's game between Iowa and Oklahoma City has been postponed due to forecasted weather. The series finale is slated for Monday, April 9 at 12:08 p.m. at Principal Park. For more information or tickets, visit www.iowacubs.com.
