Redbirds Continue Season-Opening Offensive Surge with 11-6 Win

ROUND ROCK, Texas - Every Memphis Redbird had a hit, and the defending Pacific Coast League champion Redbirds secured a series win in the first set of the year with an 11-6 win over the Round Rock Express (Rangers) Saturday night in Round Rock, Texas.

In moving to 3-0 on the year, the Redbirds have scored 36 runs on 44 hits with at least 10 knocks in each ballgame.

Adolis Garcia was 3-for-4 with two doubles, two RBI, and two runs scored, and Tyler O'Neill hit his third home run in the last two games. In addition to O'Neill, Patrick Wisdom, Alex Mejia, Oscar Mercado, and Wilfredo Tovar also had two hits in the game.

Wisdom drove in two more runs and now has six on the year. Garcia and O'Neill also had a pair of RBI.

Austin Gomber made his Triple-A debut on the mound and allowed two runs on four hits with four strikeouts in 4.0 innings, and three Redbird relievers finished the game and surrendered just two earned runs. Arturo Reyes picked up the win.

The Redbirds trailed 1-0 until scoring three runs in the 3rd, and the club added a pair of runs in the 4th, 6th, 8th, and 9th innings en route to the win.

The Redbirds and Express have two games left in their season-opening series, continuing tomorrow at 1:05 p.m. (CT) and finishing Monday night at 7:05. The Redbirds' home opener is set for Tuesday at 7:05 p.m. against the Omaha Storm Chasers (Royals).
