Green Bay, WI- Garrett Harrison was supposed to be the starting pitcher in the Big League Dreams showcase on August 4th in Madison. But his dreams were already answered last week when he inked a professional contract with the Los Angeles Dodgers.

A tall left-hander from Champlin Park, MN, Harrison pitched for the Bullfrogs from 2013-15 and started this year's Northwoods League All-Star Game for the South Division.

"After I pitched at the all-star game I had known there were a few teams that wanted to see me the next time I pitched," said Harrison. "The scout who signed me talked to me for a while during a game, just kind of picking my brain seeing who I was, how much I had grown this year. And he extended me an offer."

Harrison, the ace of the Bullfrogs for most of this summer, left the playoff bound Bullfrogs with a 4-2 record and 1.52ERA. Harrison never allowed more than three earned runs in any of his eight starts.

At St. Cloud State in the spring, he held a 2.13 ERA in 76.0IP with a record of 9-0 for a Huskies team that finished 54-5. With the combined inning load between his spring and summer seasons, and his elevated pitching performances, Harrison felt he had critically strengthened his arsenal enough to impress all major league clubs.

"I think just having overall command of the slider and the changeup," said Harrison of the most important part of his growth this season. "Being able to throw off speed pitches for strikes in any count as well as my fastball. I think it definitely helped me to keep hitters off balance."

He carried the Bullfrogs when the going was tough, and was his professional rapport was well noticed throughout the league. In his third year with the Bullfrogs, he improved markedly with each summer.

Now the Dodgers will look to work with the lefty ace in Arizona. Harrison has reported to the Dodgers Arizona complex, working with team trainers and experiencing what it is like to work on a daily basis in professional baseball.

"They have some flexibility stuff they want me to work on," said Harrison of his plan for the fall. "Just being around the [Arizona League] team, for them just to be able to monitor me."

He plans on attending St. Cloud State to finish up classes in the fall, and then in the winter will report back to Arizona for a chance to compete for a spot on most likely the Ogden Raptors (Adv. R-Pioneer League) or the Great Lakes Loons (Full A-Midwest League).

The Dodgers also just recently drafted former Bullfrogs from 2014, Matt Beaty and Ivan Vieitez, two of Harrison's teammates under Field Manager, Skip Handelsman.

"I'm just hoping I can go to spring training, be in good shape, be stronger than I've been before," said Harrison. "And then wherever I get placed just pitch well and try to move up."

Sporting the true blue, new Dodger Garrett Harrison is now the 58th former Green Bay Bullfrog to have signed a contract with a professional team.
