Rochester Honkers News Release
(Rochester, Minn.)-The Rochester Honkers dropped their second straight game to the St. Cloud Rox Wednesday night 3-1. Jordan Gross (Tulane) was charged with the loss for Rochester. Ryan Kokora (Paradise Valley CC) earned the win for the St. Cloud, and Brian Glowicki (Minnesota) picked up the save.
The Rox would take a 3-0 lead after three innings, scoring on a pair of home runs.
The Honkers would get on the board in the sixth when Adam Walton (Illinois) belted a double to the right field fence. Ryan Webberley (Cal Poly Pomona) would advance from first, and head for home on the throw in, narrowly avoiding the tag as he slid in to make it 3-1.
The Honkers would threaten with runner son first and second in the ninth, but a double play and a deep fly out to left field from Mark Contreras (UC Santa Barbara) would end any hopes of a comeback.
The loss drops the Honkers to 38-30 on the year, one game behind the Duluth Huskies for the third seed in the North division playoffs after the Huskies beat Eau Claire 5-1 earlier in the night.
The Honkers final regular season home game will be tomorrow, Thursday, August 6th, against Waterloo at 7:05 p.m. It will be Fan/Host Family Appreciation Night, and a Novo Nordisk Home Run for Life Thursday.
The Honkers will travel to either St. Cloud or Willmar for the first round of the North Divisional Playoffs on Monday, August 10th. There will be a Fan Party bus traveling to the game at either location from Rochester. Fans can get a seat on the bus for $35. That cost will include the bus ride and a general admission ticket to the game. The Bus will depart from Gander Mountain in Rochester at 2:30 p.m. on game day. Fans can bring their own beverages and snacks, though water will be provided. Reserve your spot on the bus by calling the honkers office at 507-289-1170.
