August 5, 2015 - Northwoods League (Northwoods)
Green Bay Rockers News Release
Kenosha, Wis.- The Green Bay Bullfrogs completed a sweep of the first-place Kenosha Kingfish 7-4 on Aug. 5 at Simmons Field.
Sam Brunner threw 6 1/3 innings and allowed two runs on seven hits and four walks with a pair of strikeouts, as he improved his record to 6-3 on the season.
The Bullfrogs loaded the bases in the top of the first inning with a single, hit-by-pitch and a walk, and Robb Paller scored on a passed ball with two outs to take an early 1-0 lead.
Kenosha answered in the bottom of the inning with an RBI base hit up the middle by Jeremy Vasquez to tie the game.
Logan Taylor dropped a single into shallow rightfield to score Caleb Ratzman, as Green Bay grabbed the lead right back in the second. The Bullfrogs scored again on an infield single by Brian Celsi, and Taylor scored from second on the play.
Green Bay added two more to its lead in the fourth to make it a 5-1 game. Ray Greco scored on a wild pitch, and Taylor scored on an RBI-groundout to first base hit by Celsi.
Jason Scholl nearly hit a home run, as he drove a ball deep to rightfield in the bottom of the fourth. Paller tracked it down and leapt at the wall to save what may have been a solo home run.
John Brodner cut the lead to three for the Kingfish in the fifth with a sacrifice fly to right. Paller's throw was up the line as T.J. Nichting scored. Kenosha loaded the bases later in the inning, but Vasquez flied out to center to end the threat.
Connor Donovan came on for Brunner with one out in the seventh inning and runners on first and second. Donovan struck out Alex Borglin, and Eric Filia grounded out to end the scoreless inning.
Green Bay added a pair of insurance runs in the top of the eighth to increase its lead to five. Taylor's two-out, two-RBI single scored Desi Ammons and Ratzman.
Brodner reached on a bases-loaded infield single to third in the eighth, and Zach Weigel walked to score another run. Jake Stolley entered the game and struck out Borglin to end the inning.
Stolley allowed a pair of base runners in the bottom of the ninth, but he recorded a strikeout and ended the game with a softly-hit fly ball to shortstop Matthew De La Rosa.
The Bullfrogs will return to Joannes Stadium on Thursday to begin a two-game series with the La Crosse Loggers.
