Dodgers Pull Away For 10-5 Win

Oklahoma City - The Oklahoma City Dodgers scored five runs between the eighth and ninth innings to break a tie and go on to defeat the Omaha Storm Chasers, 10-5, at Werner Park Monday night.

The Dodgers (63-54) had leads of 4-0 and 5-4, but the Storm Chasers (55-64) battled back to pull even both times. The game was in a 5-5 tie heading to the eighth inning.

Kyle Farmer led off with a single and advanced to second base on a wild pitch by Josh Staumont. A groundout by Andrew Toles moved Farmer to third base, who remained there with two outs.

With Connor Joe at the plate, Staumont threw a breaking ball in the dirt that bounced off the chest of catcher Parker Morin and to the right of the batter's circle. Farmer sprinted home and was safe on a close play at the plate, sliding under Staumont's tag.

Edward Paredes retired the side in order in the bottom of the eighth, and the Dodgers rallied for four runs in the ninth inning to put the game away after the bases were empty with two outs. Farmer hit a RBI ground rule double that went over the wall in right-center field. Following an intentional walk to Toles to load the bases, Kyle Garlick lined a three-run triple to the right-center field gap to get the Dodgers into double digits in the run column.

Joe Broussard pitched a scoreless bottom of the ninth inning to wrap up the win.

The Dodgers jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the second inning. Edwin RÃ-os led off with a double to deep center field, and two batters later, Jake Peter knocked a RBI single to start the scoring.

OKC added to the lead in the fourth inning with three more runs, picking up four hits within five batters. After a double by Garlick, RÃ-os singled him home to make it 2-0. Later in the inning with two runners on and two out, Will Smith drilled a two-run double to the center field wall to give the Dodgers a four-run lead.

But as has been the case all too often lately, the Dodgers' opponent responded with a big inning. The Storm Chasers tallied six straight hits with one out, with each of the first four going for doubles. The offensive burst produced four runs to tie up the game.

Including Monday, the Dodgers have allowed an inning of four or more runs in six of the last eight games.

The Dodgers regained the lead in the seventh inning, courtesy of a RBI single by Tim Locastro. But the Storm Chasers rallied with two outs in the home half of the frame, as Frank Schwindel doubled and Cam Gallagher followed with a RBI single.

Each team finished with 11 hits and five extra-base hits. Farmer, Garlick and RÃ-os led OKC with two hits apiece, and Schwindel tallied a game-high three hits.

Brian Schlitter (6-1) allowed the tying run to score in the seventh inning but received the winning decision. On the whole, it was a good night for the Dodgers bullpen, allowing just one run over the final four innings.

Staumont (1-4) took the loss after giving up two runs over two innings. He threw four wild pitches, which either directly or indirectly led to both runs scored against him.
